Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora on Sunday said the state government will begin registrations for the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana on April 13, under which eligible women will receive monthly financial assistance directly in their bank accounts.
Arora made the announcement while addressing the Punjab Happiness and Wellness Utsav held at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan in Ludhiana. He said the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has been taking major steps to strengthen women empowerment across the state.
Under the scheme, women aged 18 years and above will receive Rs 1,000 per month, while women from the Scheduled Castes category will get Rs 1,500 per month, he said.
Arora said the government has been working to improve the economic independence and mobility of women. He added that the state is already providing free bus travel to women, which has helped increase their access to education, work and other services.
He said the upcoming scheme would further support women by placing direct financial assistance in their hands and would add to other welfare measures being implemented for their overall empowerment.
The minister also praised the organisers of the event for working towards women’s upliftment through beauty and stitching training programmes, saying such initiatives help women learn skills and become self-reliant.
Among those present at the event were Mayor Inderjit Kaur, Simmi Pashan, District Planning Board Chairman Jatinder Singh Khangura, and Sharanpal Singh Makkar.
Earlier in the day, Arora also inaugurated Thind Eye Hospital on Ferozepur Road, opposite Wave Mall, in Ludhiana.
