The Municipal Corporation (MC) Ludhiana has launched an aggressive campaign to recover outstanding property tax and water-sewer user charges as the 2025-26 financial year approaches its conclusion. Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Dr. Neeru Katyal Gupta convened a high-level meeting at the Zone A office on Wednesday to direct Zonal Commissioners to expedite collections and meet annual recovery targets before the March 31, 2026, deadline.
The civic body currently faces a notable shortfall in its annual revenue goals. Against an annual target of Rs 180 crore for property tax, the department has collected approximately Rs 142.86 crore to date. Similarly, the corporation has recovered Rs 37.81 crore in water-sewer user charges against a target of Rs 55 crore. In addition to these core areas, officials received explicit instructions to accelerate recovery efforts within the building branch to bolster the city's financial reserves.
To facilitate compliance and simplify the process for the public, the administration plans to organize dedicated camps across various localities. Zonal Commissioners must now prepare a comprehensive schedule for these outreach camps, allowing residents to submit their dues locally without visiting central offices.
Municipal leadership emphasized that these tax collections provide the essential funding required for city-wide development projects and the maintenance of basic civic amenities. Officials warned that residents who fail to clear their dues by March 31, 2026, will face a 20 percent penalty along with 18 percent annual interest on property tax, with similar penalties applicable to delayed water-sewer charges.
To ensure sustained progress, Mayor Kaur and Dr. Gupta have mandated weekly review meetings to monitor recovery performance across all zones. The civic administration continues to urge citizens to settle their outstanding balances promptly to avoid these financial penalties and support the continued growth of the city’s infrastructure.
