Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain visited the Punjab Sakhi Shakti Mela 2026 in Khanna on Wednesday to empower local women entrepreneurs and celebrate the state’s vibrant cultural heritage. Accompanied by a team of senior administrative officials, Jain toured various exhibition stalls, specifically focusing on those managed by women-led self-help groups (SHGs).

During his visit, the Deputy Commissioner spent significant time interacting with the artisans to understand their craft and business models. He inspected a wide array of handmade goods, including intricate Phulkari embroidery, traditional handicrafts, and organic food products. Jain lauded the women for their creativity and urged them to continue their journey toward economic independence and self-reliance.

To emphasize the importance of grassroots entrepreneurship, Jain highlighted that platforms like the Sakhi Shakti Mela are essential for providing rural women with the market exposure they need to thrive. He noted that such initiatives do more than just sell products; they foster a spirit of financial autonomy that strengthens the entire community.

The visit took a festive turn as the Deputy Commissioner immersed himself in the local flavors and traditions. He sampled popular street foods like golgappe and chaat and participated in various carnival games, showcasing an approachable side of the district administration. He also joined the crowd in cheering on traditional wrestling matches and folk sports.

Jain praised the organizers for their commitment to preserving Punjab’s rich history through these traditional displays. He concluded his visit by appealing to the residents of Ludhiana and surrounding areas to visit the fair in large numbers to support local talent and boost the local economy.

Several high-ranking officials joined the DC during the tour, including Additional Deputy Commissioners Narinder Singh Dhaliwal and Jashanpreet Kaur Gill, Assistant Commissioner Dr. Pragati, and Sub-Divisional Magistrates Swati Tiwana and Payal Goyal.
