The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Assistant Sub Inspector Tarlochan Singh, currently posted as a Naib Court in a Ludhiana court, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 and a pair of branded shoes on Saturday. The VB team apprehended the officer during a trap operation following a complaint regarding the return of a seized weapon.
The action was initiated based on a complaint lodged by a resident of Chandigarh Road, Ludhiana. The complainant stated that the police had previously seized his licensed pistol during his arrest in a separate case.
According to a VB spokesperson, ASI Tarlochan Singh allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 and a pair of grey Skechers shoes in exchange for helping the complainant retrieve his weapon through the court. To provide evidence of the demand, the complainant recorded the entire conversation with the accused.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the resident approached the Vigilance Bureau Range Ludhiana. After conducting a preliminary inquiry, the VB team laid a strategic trap to catch the officer in the act.
The bureau caught the Naib Court red-handed while he accepted the cash and the shoes in the presence of two official witnesses. The VB team recovered the bribe material immediately and took the accused into custody.
The authorities have registered a case against Tarlochan Singh under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police station in Ludhiana. Officials confirmed that further investigation is currently underway to explore the details of the case.
