Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Neeru Katyal Gupta on Monday directed civic officials to strengthen sanitation measures across Ludhiana, warning that strict action would be taken against lapses in cleanliness and waste management.

The directions were issued during a review meeting with health branch officials at the MC Zone D office in Sarabha Nagar. The civic authorities instructed officials to ensure the proper functioning of static compactor sites and regular lifting of garbage from all parts of the city.

The officials also ordered a crackdown on open dumping of waste and directed staff to issue challans against violators wherever necessary. They asked the health branch to closely monitor the Municipal Corporation's main dump site and ensure timely disposal of garbage.

Mayor Kaur and Dr. Gupta directed officials to verify the daily attendance of sweepers and ensure proper cleaning and maintenance of public and community toilets. They also asked officers to conduct regular field visits to assess sanitation conditions and address issues promptly.

Assistant Commissioner Jasdev Singh Sekhon, Chief Sanitary Officer Ashwani Sahota, Health Officer Dr. Vipal Malhotra and other officials attended the meeting.

The Mayor and Commissioner announced that they would conduct surprise inspections in the coming days to check the implementation of sanitation measures. They warned that strict action would be taken if any irregularities are found during inspections.

The civic authorities also appealed to residents to support the cleanliness drive by avoiding the dumping of waste in open areas and cooperating with municipal staff in keeping the city clean.
