Top Batala Jeweller Under IT Lens as Department Conducts Survey

In a major action, teams of Income Tax Department, under directions of Chief Commissioner (Amritsar) IRS G. S. Phani Kishore, are conducting a survey on a renowned jeweller of Batala.
According to information available from highly placed sources, teams of the IT department comprising of about 30 officers and staff from the department’s Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Batala, Jalandhar offices along with security personnel started the survey at Luthra Jewellery House on Tuesday afternoon. The firm in question is among the leading jewellery retailers in the Batala belt, dealing in jewellery, gold and diamond.
Under the supervision of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax IRS Kanwaljit Singh, Additional Commissioner IRS Yashender Garg and Assistant Commissioner IRS Pavinder Singh, IT teams conducted a survey at three premises of the owners situated in the narrow lanes near Nehru Gate, Batala.
Sources also disclosed that angles being probed by the IT teams in this survey include, tax discrepancies, stock mismatch etc. However the exact details would be known only after the survey concludes, which sources anticipate would yield good revenue for the department.
Meanwhile a team comprising of ITO Kamal Choudhary and others was also scrutinising papers and other documents found at the premises, the survey was still underway at the time of filing this report.
