Congress leader Pawan Dewan has launched a poster campaign across Ludhiana West constituency demanding accountability from the Punjab government over its unfulfilled promise of providing ₹1,000 per month to every woman above 18 years of age. The posters question why eligible women in Punjab have not received the financial assistance promised during the 2022 Assembly elections and ask the government where the accumulated ₹48,000 per beneficiary for the past four years has gone.

Dewan, former president of the District Congress Committee (Urban) and ex-chairman of the Punjab Large Industrial Development Board, said the campaign aims to highlight what he described as a broken commitment by the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. According to him, nearly 1.31 crore eligible women across Punjab were promised the monthly allowance, but the scheme has not been implemented so far.

He alleged that the promise helped the Aam Aadmi Party secure electoral support but was not fulfilled after the party came to power. Dewan claimed the issue has triggered resentment among women beneficiaries and questioned the government’s commitment to delivering on its pre-poll assurances.

The Congress leader demanded that if the government announces the scheme in the upcoming state budget, it should also release arrears of the past four years, amounting to ₹48,000 for each eligible woman. He said women in the state would expect the government to honour its commitment rather than make symbolic announcements ahead of elections.

Several local leaders, including Inderjit Kapoor Tony, Jaswinder Singh Namdhari, Rohit Pahwa, Gurcharan Singh Saini alias Bunty, Gursharan Singh, Rajneesh Singla, Nirbhai Singh Ranguwal, Varun Sharma, Harbhagat Singh Grewal, Jatinder Kumar and Rajat Sharma Lucky, were present during the campaign in Ludhiana.
