MP Rajinder Gupta meets union minister Nitin Gadkari, Raises key Punjab road issues

Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Rajinder Gupta met Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, on December 3, 2025, to discuss crucial road infrastructure issues concerning Punjab, specifically the delayed access points on the Delhi-Katra Expressway. The meeting resulted in a commitment from Minister Gadkari to personally inspect the site and ensure the Malerkotla connectivity is functional by the end of March 2026.
The high-level discussion in Delhi centered on the need to expedite the Bhawanigarh and Malerkotla Exit & Entry points, which are intended to connect the Expressway to Sangrur and Malerkotla Districts. Gupta highlighted that despite the connectivity work being nearing completion, its functionality has been significantly delayed, impeding the benefits of the massive infrastructure project for local citizens.
In response, Minister Gadkari assured MP Gupta that he will conduct a joint inspection of the site to personally oversee the progress and eliminate bottlenecks. The Minister gave a timeline, committing to having the Malerkotla access point connected and fully functional by the end of March 2026. He further stated that the remaining related work shall be completed within the subsequent three months, wrapping up all outstanding issues concerning the crucial entry and exit points.
Minister Gadkari confirmed that the Delhi-Katra Expressway currently connects with Khanauri in Punjab State. The completion of these new access points will significantly enhance the utility of the Expressway. This road network is expected to bring substantial relief to lakhs of citizens by drastically reducing both travel time and cost for people travelling through the area, boosting connectivity and commerce.
