Atam Nagar MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu on Monday inaugurated the installation of a new water supply pipeline under the ongoing canal-based water supply project, reiterating the state government’s commitment to providing clean and reliable drinking water to Ludhiana residents.
The project will see the laying of a 2-km-long pipeline along the canal, starting from the Dugri canal bridge, at an estimated cost of ₹10 crore. The work marks another major step under the World Bank and AIIB-funded canal-based water supply initiative.
MLA Sidhu said the first phase of the project, costing around ₹1,300 crore (civil works), is currently underway. As part of this, a world-class water treatment plant is being constructed at village Bilga near Sahnewal, from where treated surface water will be supplied across the city.
He added that multiple overhead reservoirs and pipelines are also being set up in different areas of Ludhiana to strengthen water distribution and improve overall infrastructure quality.
Sidhu said that under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government is focusing on sustainable development and people-centric initiatives. He stated that feedback from residents is being actively considered to ensure positive change on the ground.
Councillors Usha Rani, Komalpreet Kaur Sachdeva and Surinder Kalyan were present during the inauguration, along with Sameer Kalyan, Sehaj Kukreja, Asees Kalra, Ompal Singh, and Jatinder Kalyan.
