Minister Ravjot Singh, MP Seechewal Review Buddha Dariya Rejuvenation: Idustrial & Dairy Waste Dumpers to Face Crackdown

Local Bodies Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal conducted a high-level review of the Buddha Dariya Rejuvenation Project at the Jamalpur Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) on Saturday. The meeting focused on rigorous enforcement against polluters and strict accountability for officials to expedite the river’s clean-up.
The Minister and MP Seechewal issued strict directions to the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board (PWSSB) and civic body staff. They demanded officials ensure the proper, full-time functioning of all Sewer Treatment Plants (STPs) and Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs). Non-compliance in maintaining the treatment plants will result in stern departmental action against the concerned staff.
The leaders also directed officials from the civic body and the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) to immediately stop the unchecked dumping of cow dung and untreated industrial waste into the Buddha Dariya. They explicitly instructed authorities to take strict action against all violators caught contaminating the water channel.
The state government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, remains committed to the rejuvenation effort, the Minister and MP Seechewal stated. They confirmed they actively and regularly monitor the project’s progress on the ground. The government has fixed strict timelines for the remaining work, and officials received a clear warning that no laxity or delays will be tolerated, with serious departmental action awaiting any negligent parties.
Earlier in the day, the Cabinet Minister and MP Seechewal visited the 'Sangat Ghat', a bathing site MP Seechewal established on the banks of the Buddha Dariya. Dr. Singh praised MP Seechewal’s efforts in tackling river pollution.
Following the main meeting, MLA Daljit Singh Grewal, MLA Ashok Prashar Pappi, and Municipal Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal met with dairy owners at the Tajpur road dairy complex. They urged the dairy owners to cooperate with authorities, immediately stop dumping cow dung into the Buddha Dariya, and warned that failure to comply will invite strict punitive action.
