Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Thursday distributed compensation sanction letters worth ₹1.44 crore to 120 families in the Khanna assembly constituency whose houses were damaged by heavy rainfall and flood-like conditions this year.
The minister said the first instalment of ₹70,000 for each eligible family will be released soon. He added that the remaining amount—totalling ₹1.20 lakh per family—will be disbursed in two instalments linked to the progress of construction so that the rebuilding of houses continues smoothly.
Sond informed that the Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has integrated the reconstruction work with MGNREGA. He said each beneficiary family will receive 90 days of wage employment under the scheme, helping them earn additional income while rebuilding their damaged homes.
The minister emphasised that the state government is committed to ensuring that no affected family faces delays or hurdles in receiving compensation. He said the Chief Minister has directed officials to complete the entire process—from assessment of damage to transfer of funds—swiftly and transparently.
Sond also noted that Chief Minister Mann personally launched the statewide initiative in Gurdaspur on Wednesday, where sanction letters were issued to more than 30,000 affected families as part of the ongoing relief effort.
Market Committee Khanna Chairman Jagtar Singh Gill (Ratanheri), District Planning Board member Master Avtar Singh Daheru and others were present during the event.
