Ikramudin / Ludhiana
Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora, accompanied by MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu, visited the grieving families of the Vrindavan boat mishap victims in Ludhiana on Sunday to offer heartfelt condolences and ensure the state government’s full support. The visit comes in the wake of a tragic accident in the Yamuna River that claimed the lives of several pilgrims from the city.
The tragedy unfolded when a boat carrying devotees capsized in Vrindavan, resulting in the deaths of Rakesh Gulati, his wife Anju Gulati, and their neighbor Meenu Bansal. During his visit to their residences, Minister Arora sat with the family members to share in their sorrow, emphasizing that he stood with them not merely as a government representative but as a fellow human being deeply moved by their immense loss.
The Minister pulled no punches in his assessment of the mishap, categorizing the event as a direct result of gross negligence rather than a mere accident. He asserted that those responsible for managing the boat operations must be held legally accountable for their carelessness. To ensure justice, Arora demanded a high-level, time-bound investigation to prevent any of the culprits from escaping the reach of the law.
Adding to the somber atmosphere of the day, search teams recovered the body of Dinki Bansal, daughter of the late Meenu Bansal, from the Yamuna River on Sunday. Authorities expect her mortal remains to arrive in Ludhiana late tonight, marking another painful chapter for a community already reeling from the disaster.
Arora further pledged that the Punjab government would actively coordinate with the Uttar Pradesh administration to expedite the legal process and implement stricter safety protocols to safeguard future pilgrims. He assured the families that they could contact him at any hour for assistance, promising that the government would not leave them to navigate this difficult period alone.
MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu echoed the Minister’s sentiments throughout the visit, affirming that all necessary resources and administrative assistance would be provided at the local level. Both leaders remained steadfast in their commitment to securing justice for the victims and ensuring that such a preventable tragedy does not occur again.
