In a move aimed at easing access to cooking fuel for migrant labourers, the Food Supply Department, in collaboration with the District Administration, has decided to make 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders available at selected petrol pumps across Ludhiana.
The initiative seeks to address a common problem faced by migrant workers — the difficulty of obtaining small LPG cylinders for daily cooking needs. By making the cylinders available through petrol pumps, the administration hopes to provide a convenient and practical solution while also discouraging unnecessary reverse migration to workers’ hometowns.
To ensure the smooth implementation of the plan, the District Food and Supplies Controller (DFSC) recently held a meeting with petrol pump owners in the city. During the meeting, the owners assured full cooperation and agreed to keep regular stocks of the 5 kg FTL cylinders at designated outlets.
Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain said the move would provide much-needed relief to migrant labourers and other residents facing LPG availability challenges. He added that integrating the distribution of small LPG cylinders into the existing fuel retail network would significantly improve accessibility and simplify daily life for thousands of workers living in Ludhiana.
Officials believe the initiative will strengthen the city’s support system for migrant labourers by ensuring that an essential household fuel remains readily available where people can access it easily and quickly.
