Panic gripped Chandigarh on Tuesday after a low-intensity blast-like incident was reported outside the Punjab BJP office in Sector 37. The explosion was heard in the area, prompting a swift police response and triggering fresh concerns over security in the city. Authorities have begun an investigation, though senior police officials have said it is too early to conclusively determine the exact nature of the device or the full circumstances surrounding the blast.

Police teams and forensic experts reached the spot soon after the incident, and the area was secured for examination. While the blast caused alarm among party workers and nearby residents, no loss of life or injury has been reported so far, according to initial information available till the filing of this report. Investigators are expected to examine CCTV footage, physical evidence from the scene, and any possible security lapses in the vicinity.

Reacting to the incident later in the day, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring condemned the blast outside the Punjab BJP office, calling it a matter of grave concern. He said it was fortunate that no lives were lost, but added that the incident reflected a serious security and intelligence failure. Warring said that if Chandigarh—housing the offices and residences linked to top constitutional and political functionaries—could witness such an incident, it raised troubling questions about the overall security environment in the region.

He further expressed hope that the police would get to the bottom of the matter, investigate all angles, and arrest those responsible at the earliest, while reiterating zero tolerance for such incidents.
