The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday marked its 41st Raising Day by organising large-scale youth mobilisation programmes across nearly 40 cities in India, engaging thousands of students in anti-drug awareness activities and promoting a drug-free lifestyle.

The initiative was held on March 17 to highlight over four decades of NCB’s efforts in combating drug trafficking and substance abuse. Programmes took place in major cities including Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Agartala, where students, teachers, and community members actively participated.

Authorities organised anti-drug pledges, rallies, awareness sessions, walkathons, and heritage walks to educate young people about the health, psychological, social, and legal consequences of drug abuse. Officials also explained preventive measures, early warning signs, and recovery options while encouraging students to adopt healthier life choices.

At Sri Venkateswara College in Delhi, a large number of students took a pledge against drug abuse, while fitness influencer Ankit Bayanpuriya motivated them to stay disciplined and focus on health. In Jodhpur, around 400 participants joined a heritage walk at Ghanta Ghar under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan to spread awareness.

In Chandigarh, nearly 250 students attended an awareness programme at the Institute of Hotel Management, while a meditation session was organised in Jammu in collaboration with Sri Ramchandra Mission. In Bengaluru, about 5,000 students participated in a walkathon and awareness session, and similar programmes in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram districts saw participation from around 2,500 students.

The NCB also promoted its MANAS Helpline (1933) during events across the country, urging students and teachers to use the platform for reporting drug-related issues and seeking help. In Patna, an awareness event reinforced the message “Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life,” while in Ranchi, nearly 800 students took part in programmes at local institutions.

In Ahmedabad and Mumbai, students were sensitised about the dangers of drug abuse and encouraged to take e-pledges. In Agartala, gymnast Dipa Karmakar spoke about the importance of fitness and staying away from drugs, while a similar awareness event was held at Manipur University.

Officials said the nationwide campaign aimed to directly engage youth, strengthen community participation, and reinforce the government’s commitment to building a drug-free India through awareness and prevention.
