The district administration has begun preparations for India’s Digital Census 2027 with a two-day training programme for charge census officers and technical assistants that started at Bachat Bhawan on Monday.

Officials organised the training to prepare staff for Phase-I of the census, which will cover the House Listing and Housing Census exercise scheduled to take place from May 15 to June 13, 2026. The exercise will be conducted through a fully digital, app-based system across the district.

During the training, officers received guidance on the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS) portal, house listing operations management, the House Listing Block Creation application and the Self-Enumeration portal. Participants also discussed operational procedures and clarified their queries to ensure smooth implementation of the census process.

According to officials, more than 6,000 enumerators will carry out the house listing exercise in Ludhiana. They will visit households door-to-door and collect information through 33 questions related to housing conditions, amenities and household assets.

The questionnaire will include details such as building and house numbers, construction material of floors, walls and roofs, use and condition of the house, number of household members, ownership status of the house and the number of dwelling rooms. Enumerators will also gather information on drinking water sources, electricity, sanitation facilities, cooking fuel, internet access and possession of assets such as televisions, mobile phones, bicycles and vehicles.

Residents will also have the option of voluntary self-enumeration through an online portal from April 30 to May 14, 2026 before the field survey begins.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Poonam Singh directed charge census officers and staff to perform their duties with dedication and follow timelines strictly. She warned that the administration would show zero tolerance for negligence in census work and urged residents to cooperate with officials during the survey.

Senior officials including Joint Commissioner Vinit Kumar, SDM Jasleen Kaur Bhullar, Assistant Commissioners Jasdev Singh Sekhon, Amandeep Singh and Neeraj Jain, along with representatives from various departments, attended the training programme.
