NHRC Member Kanoongo Chairs Review Meeting on Welfare Schemes in Ludhiana

Member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Priyank Kanoongo on Tuesday reviewed the implementation of human rights and welfare schemes during a meeting with district administration officials at Bachat Bhawan and directed the police to mandatorily inform the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) within 24 hours of every FIR registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Presiding over the meeting, Kanoongo said the Commission remains committed to protecting the human rights of every section of society and emphasized the need for strict adherence to provisions under the POCSO Act to ensure timely protection and care for victims. He instructed the police department to ensure that information about every POCSO case reaches the CWC within the stipulated time.
The NHRC member also asked the Department of Social Security and Women and Child Development to expedite financial assistance for rape victims belonging to the Scheduled Caste community and sought details from the police regarding such cases registered in the district.
During the review meeting, Kanoongo assessed the progress of several central welfare schemes, including the Aajeevika Mission, PM Vishwakarma Scheme, Namaste Scheme, Mental Health Programme, Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), Pre- and Post-Matric Scholarship Schemes, and Ayushman Bharat Yojana.
Additional Deputy Commissioners Poonam Singh and Dr. Narinder Singh Dhaliwal, SDM Kuldeep Bawa, Assistant Commissioner Payal Goyal, police officials, representatives from the Jail Department, and heads of various departments attended the meeting.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Poonam Singh presented details about the welfare schemes being implemented in the district and said the administration is committed to transparent governance while ensuring the protection of human rights.
