The Municipal Corporation (MC) Ludhiana intensified its drive against unauthorized constructions on Monday by demolishing two illegal commercial buildings and removing an encroachment in separate areas of the city.
Acting on the directions of MC Commissioner Dr. Neeru Katyal Gupta, civic officials carried out the demolition drive in areas falling under Zones B and D. The action forms part of the corporation’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal construction activities and enforce building regulations.
In the first operation, officials demolished the unauthorized portion of a commercial building in Sundar Nagar under Zone B. Later, the building branch of the Zone D office razed an under-construction commercial building near the Jawaddi Canal Bridge for violating approved building norms.
The civic body also removed an encroachment on Sua Road, located behind Keys Hotel, during the enforcement drive.
Assistant Town Planner (ATP) Harvinder Singh Honey said the Municipal Corporation had previously served notices to the property owners, directing them to stop the illegal construction work. However, the owners allegedly failed to comply with the notices, prompting the civic body to take demolition action.
Harvinder Singh Honey said the campaign against unauthorized constructions would continue in the coming days. He urged residents and property owners to obtain approval of building plans from the Municipal Corporation before starting any construction work.
The MC warned that it would take strict action against those who violate building regulations or undertake construction without the required permissions.
