Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora on Tuesday supervised the draw of lots for the Atal Apartments housing scheme in Ludhiana, reaffirming the state government’s focus on transparency and citizen-centric urban development. The draw, conducted by the Improvement Trust at Nehru Sidhant Kendra, witnessed strong public participation amid overwhelming demand for the flats.

Arora said the housing scheme has received an exceptional response, with applications far exceeding the available units. A total of 571 applications were received for 43 HIG flats, while 963 applicants competed for 136 MIG flats. He ensured that authorities conducted the entire draw process in a transparent manner and allowed applicants to witness the proceedings.

On the occasion, the minister paid floral tributes to B. R. Ambedkar on his 135th birth anniversary.

He informed that nearly 70–80 per cent of the construction work has been completed, with only finishing work remaining. The authorities plan to hand over possession of the flats by the end of this year, reflecting the public’s trust in the functioning of the Improvement Trust.

Highlighting upcoming development plans, Arora announced that the department will float tenders within a month for three new community centres in Kitchlu Nagar, Model Town Extension, and Kabir Society (SBS Nagar). He added that the government has also finalized rate contracts for large-scale de-silting of sewage systems across Punjab.

Under this initiative, nine contractors will work round-the-clock to prevent waterlogging during the upcoming monsoon season, aiming to improve urban infrastructure and civic amenities.

The Chairman of the Improvement Trust stated that the scheme has received an encouraging response from residents, who appreciated the transparent and efficient process from application to draw. He added that the project will not only provide housing but also generate revenue, which will be reinvested in the city’s development.

He further revealed that the Trust will soon launch new projects, including one- and two-bedroom flats for lower-income groups, along with commercial properties to support local businesses.

The draw was conducted in the presence of several officials and dignitaries, including Jatinder Singh Khangura, Manu Jairath, Parminder Singh Sandhu, Amandeep Singh Bhathal, Sandeep Mishra, and Balbir Chaudhary, along with staff of the Improvement Trust.
