Over 50 Sanitation Workers Trained in Safety, Hygiene by Ludhiana Civic Body

The Municipal Corporation (MC) of Ludhiana conducted a specialized one-day training camp for its sanitation workforce in the Prem Nagar area of Civil Lines on Saturday. Held under the aegis of the Swachh Bharat Mission, the initiative aimed to equip field workers with modern skills while prioritizing their physical safety and operational efficiency.
MC Commissioner Dr. Neeru Katyal Gupta spearheaded the initiative, which saw the participation of over 50 sewermen and sweepers. The session served as a comprehensive workshop where experts apprised the staff of safe work practices to mitigate occupational hazards often faced during manhole desilting and street sweeping.
In addition to technical training, the camp focused heavily on promoting personal hygiene and health awareness among the frontline workers. Officials, including SDO Anshul Garcha, JE Gurdeep Singh, and CF Chanderjyoti, monitored the session to ensure the staff understood the protocols for maintaining a safer working environment.
The civic body also transformed the trainees into community educators by instructing them to spread awareness regarding solid waste management among local residents. The authorities used the platform to appeal to the public, urging citizens to support the MC’s efforts in keeping the industrial hub clean and green through better waste disposal habits.
Dr. Neeru Katyal Gupta emphasized that the civic body organizes these training sessions on a regular basis to ensure that sanitation services remain effective and staff-centric. She noted that the MC remains committed to worker welfare, frequently pairing these educational programs with health check-up camps to monitor the long-term well-being of the workforce.
