MC launches city-wide campaign to promote solid waste management in Ludhiana

The Municipal Corporation (MC) Ludhiana on Monday launched a city-wide awareness campaign to promote proper solid waste management, with Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Dr Neeru Katyal Gupta flagging off awareness vans from the Zone D office in Sarabha Nagar.

The civic body also unveiled an official campaign poster carrying messages on solid waste management and the canal-based water supply project as part of the outreach initiative aimed at educating residents across the city.

The MC has deployed specially equipped awareness vans and e-rickshaws to travel through different localities and spread information about proper waste disposal practices. Officials said the vehicles are fitted with audio-visual systems to engage residents and encourage them to adopt responsible waste handling habits.

The campaign will not remain limited to mobile publicity. Field teams will also carry out door-to-door awareness drives in residential areas and markets to sensitise people about the importance of proper waste disposal and cleanliness.

Officials said the Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC) has engaged a dedicated agency to carry out a series of outreach activities under the campaign. In the coming days, the civic body also plans to organise public meetings, school and college programmes, drawing competitions, and street plays to widen public participation.

Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Dr Neeru Katyal Gupta appealed to residents to support the civic body’s efforts and avoid dumping garbage in open spaces and vacant plots.

MC Joint Commissioner Vineet Kumar, Superintending Engineers Sham Lal Gupta, Praveen Singla, Ekjot Singh and Parul Goyal, along with other officials, were present during the launch.
