In a major relief amid the ongoing LPG shortage in the district, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain on Monday directed all Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), including IOC, HPCL and BPCL, along with LPG gas agencies, to immediately restore the supply of Non-Domestic LPG up to 50 per cent of the pre-crisis level in Ludhiana.
Chairing a meeting with representatives of OMCs and LPG gas agencies, Jain ordered the companies and distributors to resume the supply without any further delay. He warned that the district administration would deal strictly with any complaint regarding supply disruption under the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act.
The Deputy Commissioner also cautioned against diversion or hoarding of LPG cylinders, saying such violations would invite strict legal action, including registration of an FIR under the relevant provisions of law.
To reduce inconvenience for labourers and workers, Jain advised industrial and commercial establishments to coordinate with gas agencies supplying 5 Kg FTL LPG cylinders so that workers do not have to stand in queues for domestic supply.
In another important decision, Jain said industries that submit an undertaking regarding readiness to shift to PNG would receive up to 70 per cent of the pre-crisis level of Non-Domestic LPG supply. He asked such industries to coordinate with the DFSC office at 78890-58297 or the GM DIC office at 98148-65065 for better PNG-related coordination.
The Deputy Commissioner further directed all non-domestic consumers to submit an end-use certificate to their respective LPG distributors to ensure transparent and regulated distribution.
To monitor the implementation of these directions, the district administration has constituted a district-level committee headed by the Additional Chief Administrator, GLADA. The committee will supervise LPG distribution and ensure compliance with the administration’s orders.
The administration has also established control rooms for regulating LPG supply to key sectors such as hospitals, educational institutions, industrial canteens, restaurants, dhabas and wedding-related services across different parts of the district.
Officials said the move aims to streamline LPG distribution, prevent misuse and provide immediate relief to commercial and institutional consumers affected by the ongoing supply crisis.
