In a bid to stop the dumping of cow dung into Buddha Dariya and strengthen waste management in the city’s dairy zones, MLAs Madan Lal Bagga and Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal, along with Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur and Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, on Monday directed strict implementation of door-to-door cow dung lifting from the Haibowal and Tajpur Road dairy complexes.
The directions came during a meeting held at Bachat Bhawan, where elected representatives, district officials, dairy association members and the contractor engaged for the work reviewed the ongoing system and discussed measures to improve coordination.
The leaders and officials made it clear that the administration would not allow anyone to dump cow dung into Buddha Dariya, as the state government is pushing efforts to rejuvenate the polluted water body. They said the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to restoring the drain and every required step is being taken in that direction.
To improve the lifting process, the contractor was asked to deploy carts (rehras) inside the dairy complexes so that cow dung can be collected directly from dairy units in a more efficient and regular manner. The move is expected to reduce open dumping and improve sanitation in both complexes.
During the meeting, the representatives also underlined that the administration is not against dairy owners, but insisted that all stakeholders must cooperate to ensure proper waste disposal and environmental compliance.
Among those present at the meeting were ADC (UD) Amit Bamby, DCP Jaskaran Teja, SDM (West) Kuldeep Bawa, SDM (East) Jasleen Kaur Bhullar, MC Joint Commissioners Vineet Kumar, Amanpreet Singh and Deepjot Kaur, RTA Secretary Mankanwal Singh, and Hardev Singh Daudar, representative of Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal. Officials from the district administration, Municipal Corporation, Punjab Pollution Control Board, Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, PEDA, representatives of dairy associations from Haibowal and Tajpur Road, and the contractor also attended the meeting.
