Municipal Corporation (MC) Ludhiana will keep its zonal Suvidha Kendras operational on Tuesday, March 31, despite the Mahavir Jayanti government holiday to help residents meet the final deadline for property tax payments. Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Dr. Neeru Katyal Gupta issued this directive to ensure taxpayers can settle their dues for the current financial year and avoid steep financial penalties that take effect once the new fiscal year begins.

The civic body currently provides a window until midnight on March 31 for residents to pay their tax with a 10 percent penalty, which has been in place since January 1. However, any payments made after this Tuesday deadline will attract a significantly higher penalty of 20 percent along with an 18 percent annual interest charge on the delayed amount.

Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur urged the public to utilize the remaining hours to clear their arrears, noting that the collected revenue funds essential civic amenities and ongoing development projects across the city. She emphasized that timely payments support the Municipal Corporation’s ability to maintain infrastructure and public services for all residents.

To accommodate the expected rush, all four zonal offices will maintain routine working hours on the holiday. Officials explained that while the 10 percent rebate for early payments ended on September 30 and the no-penalty period concluded on December 31, the current jump to a 20 percent penalty plus interest represents a substantial increase for those who miss the March 31 cutoff.

For those looking to avoid long queues at the physical Suvidha Kendras, the Municipal Corporation has enabled an online payment facility. Residents can visit the official website at mcludhiana.gov.in to complete their transactions digitally from their homes or offices before the financial year closes.
