A serving jawan of the Border Security Force (BSF) died after his health deteriorated
while in the custody of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
The deceased constable had been detained by the NCB in connection with a suspected drug-related investigation linked to cross-border smuggling networks.
Officials had been probing a wider narcotics racket operating along the Punjab border, and the jawan was taken into custody for questioning as part of that inquiry.
According to available information, the incident occurred during transit when the constable’s health suddenly deteriorated. He was taken to a hospital near Amritsar, where doctors declared him dead.
Authorities have maintained that due medical attention was provided, but the exact cause of death is yet to be officially clarified.
Family members of the deceased have expressed doubts over the sequence of events and have called for a fair and impartial investigation.
Amid the growing concern, the Punjab Human Rights Organisation has sought a judicial probe into the matter.
