The Deputy Commissioner of Ludhiana today ordered the formation of sub-division level committees to streamline the supply of commercial LPG across the district. This decision follows directives from the Punjab Government's Department of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs to ensure that essential services receive adequate fuel during the current regulatory period.
The Deputy Commissioner, acting as the chairperson for the district-level monitoring, established these committees for Ludhiana (East/West), Khanna/Samarala/Payal, and Jagraon/Raikot. These teams include Additional Deputy Commissioners, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, police representatives, and health and education officials. The committees will oversee the daily distribution to ensure that priority sectors remain operational without disruption.
The administration has categorized hospitals and all educational institutions, including hostels, as essential categories. Under these new orders, the Punjab Government has mandated that these institutions receive commercial LPG supply on a priority basis. District authorities have also been instructed to prioritize the allotment of cylinders for marriage functions, specifically according to preference for the marriage of daughters.
In line with Government of India orders, all other commercial establishments have been classified as non-prioritized for the use of commercial LPG cylinders. The administration has categorized industrial canteens, restaurants, and dhabas as semi-essential. To manage this tiered system, the Deputy Commissioner has directed PSU Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to release the non-domestic LPG quota on a daily basis and carry forward any undelivered stocks to the next day.
To facilitate smooth operations, the district has established dedicated control rooms for different sectors. The Civil Surgeon’s office will handle hospital requirements, while the District Education Officers will manage requests from schools and colleges. General Managers of the District Industries Centre and various Assistant Food Supply Officers (AFSOs) will oversee industrial canteens and the hospitality sector respectively.
For wedding ceremonies, the administration has capped the supply at a maximum of six 5kg commercial cylinders. Applicants must apply four working days in advance to allow the authorized departments to complete the necessary verification before the supply is released. The Area Sales Manager-cum-Nodal Officer of IOCL will attend daily meetings at 10:00 AM to coordinate the storage and distribution list with the administration.
The Deputy Commissioner warned that these orders come into effect immediately. The formed committees will strictly monitor the distribution process and initiate legal action against any individuals or establishments found violating the government-mandated norms.
