A Skill Development Programme at the Observation Home in Ludhiana is equipping children with practical and employable skills, aiming to secure a better future for them through structured training and hands-on learning.

The initiative is being conducted at the Observation Home under the guidance of the district administration, where children are currently enrolled in Certified Computer Courses (Level-1 and Level-2) to build essential digital knowledge. Alongside, cooking classes are teaching them to prepare coffee, toasties, corn-based dishes and sandwiches, helping them gain basic culinary skills.

The programme also focuses on gardening, with children actively growing both winter and summer vegetables, promoting self-reliance and sustainability. Authorities have announced that electrical and plumbing training will soon be introduced to further enhance vocational skills and expand employment opportunities.

An upcoming initiative, “Cafe Rise” — centred on Rehabilitation, Inclusion, Skill and Empowerment — will soon be launched to provide a practical platform where trained youth can apply their skills and gain real-world experience.

The programme is being run by the Philanthropy Club led by Lakhminder Kaur and Vimmi Bajaj, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, Head of Governance Cell Ambar Bandhopadhyay, and with the support of DCPO Rashmi.
