In a move to end chronic traffic congestion and improve civic standards, Ludhiana Mayor Inderjit Kaur conducted a surprise inspection of the Municipal Corporation (MC) Zone A office near Mata Rani Chowk on Tuesday. The Mayor issued immediate, stern directives to the tehbazaari wing and police teams to halt illegal parking at the office entrance and warned staff of departmental action if cleanliness standards are not met.
The inspection targeted the chaotic movement of vehicles that frequently blocks the entry gate, a major grievance for the hundreds of residents who visit the civic headquarters daily. Mayor Kaur ordered the police to move beyond warnings and begin issuing challans to any two-wheelers or cars parked in unauthorized zones.
During the visit, the Mayor personally interacted with visitors, advising them to utilize the multi-storey parking facility located adjacent to the building. To ensure the message reaches everyone in the vicinity, she directed that regular public announcements be made via loudspeakers to streamline traffic flow and prevent gridlock at the busy intersection.
Shifting her focus to sanitation, Mayor Kaur inspected the entry points and corridors of the facility. She expressed that a lack of hygiene at a public service office is unacceptable and placed the health branch on notice. The staff received clear instructions that any failure to maintain the premises would result in immediate disciplinary proceedings.
The Mayor emphasized that these measures align with the broader governance goals of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Local Bodies Minister Sanjeev Arora. She noted that while the administration is working rigorously to facilitate the public, citizens must also do their part by refraining from dumping waste in open plots.
By taking direct charge of the site, the Mayor sought to demonstrate that administrative accountability starts at the front door of the civic body. The enforcement drive is expected to continue throughout the week to ensure the entry remains clear for pedestrians and official vehicles alike.
