The Municipal Corporation Ludhiana on Thursday launched e-POS machines to enable residents to pay municipal taxes and dues at their doorsteps through digital modes, becoming the first civic body in Punjab to introduce such a facility.
Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur and Senior Deputy Mayor Rakesh Prashar launched the initiative at the MC Zone D office in Sarabha Nagar. With the introduction of the machines, civic body teams will visit different areas of the city and allow residents to make payments using debit or credit cards, UPI, or cash without visiting municipal offices.
Officials said residents will be able to pay property tax, trade licence fees and rent of MC properties through the e-POS machines. The devices will generate instant receipts, which will be handed over to residents after every transaction, ensuring transparency and convenience in payments.
The civic body has provided 48 e-POS machines to its staff, with 12 machines allocated to each zone of the Municipal Corporation. Training of field staff is currently underway, and teams equipped with the devices are expected to start visiting localities in the coming days.
Mayor Inderjit Kaur said the initiative, launched under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Local Bodies Minister Sanjeev Arora, aims to promote digitalisation and improve efficiency in municipal services. She also directed officials to expedite recovery of pending dues and announced that the MC will organise camps across the city to facilitate residents in clearing their payments.
The Mayor appealed to residents to pay their property tax and water-sewer bills before March 31 to avoid penalties. Municipal officials warned that failure to clear property tax for the 2025-26 financial year by the deadline will attract a 20 per cent penalty along with 18 per cent annual interest.
