The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) launched a massive crackdown on unauthorized and unplanned developments across the district on Monday, signaling a strict zero-tolerance policy against those bypassing building regulations. Acting under the direct orders of Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian and Chief Administrator Sandeep Kumar, officials have begun issuing immediate notices to violators found deviating from their government-approved blueprints.

The enforcement drive follows a surge in illegal constructions that threaten the city’s planned infrastructure. To curb this trend, GLADA issued a formal notice on March 3 to a local property owner for undertaking unauthorized commercial activity. The owner was found to be constructing a structure that significantly exceeded the specific parameters of the sanctioned building plan approved on April 19, 2024.

In a similar enforcement action, the authority targeted another major violation where a builder constructed a complex consisting of a basement, ground floor, and two additional upper floors. This structure directly contradicted the limited height and density permitted in the original sanctioned plan. These notices serve as a stern warning that GLADA inspectors are actively monitoring sites to ensure physical construction matches official records.

Chief Administrator Sandeep Kumar appealed to the general public to ensure all construction projects strictly follow the plans approved by the competent authority. He emphasized that any deviation will lead to the immediate cancellation of the approved building plan. Once a plan is revoked, the authority is empowered to take drastic measures, including the sealing of the premises and the total demolition of illegal structures.

The authority has clarified that the full legal and financial responsibility for these violations rests entirely with the property owners and builders. GLADA Additional Chief Administrator Vikas Hira reiterated that the agency will not stop at site demolitions. The authority is now prepared to initiate strict legal proceedings against any individuals or entities found orchestrating unauthorized developments throughout the district.
