The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday carried out coordinated raids at multiple locations linked to Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora, his family members, and business associates as part of an ongoing probe into alleged violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, ED teams searched around 13 premises across Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Gurugram, and Chandigarh early in the day. Alleged partners of Arora, businessmen Hemant Sood of Ludhiana and Chandershekhar Aggarwal of Jalandhar are also being covered in the raids.

Sources said the action is part of a wider investigation into suspected financial irregularities involving foreign exchange transactions and real estate dealings. The agency is probing alleged round-tripping of funds, where money is reportedly sent abroad and brought back into India through complex channels.

Investigators are also examining suspected insider trading, illegal land-use changes, and possible links with shell companies connected to a real estate firm associated with Arora and his family.

Sources said the searches covered residential and business premises of the minister, including properties linked to his son and close associates. The ED is believed to be scrutinizing financial documents, electronic records, and transaction trails to establish the flow of funds and identify potential violations under FEMA provisions.

Responding to the raids, Arora who is out of country in his twitter post said, " As a responsible citizen, I will fully cooperate with the agencies and I am confident that the truth will prevail"

The development has triggered political reactions in Punjab, with Aam Aadmi Party leaders targeting the BJP and questioned the timing of the action.
