Ludhiana Police Arrest Two Habitual Thieves, Recover Seven Stolen Mobile Phones

In a major crackdown on street crime, the Ludhiana Police arrested two habitual thieves and recovered seven stolen mobile phones following a targeted operation near the local railway station area.
Acting on a confidential tip-off, a police team from Division No. 1 Police Station intercepted the suspects at Lakkar Pul on April 5. The arrested individuals have been identified as Santosh Kumar, son of Kunwar Pal, and Deepak Kumar, son of Jagdish Kumar, both of whom reside in the vicinity of the Ludhiana Railway Station.
The operation was conducted under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma, IPS, as part of an intensified drive to curb theft and snatching incidents in the city. The police team, led by Inspector Paramveer Singh, SHO Division No. 1, executed the arrest under the supervision of Additional Commissioner Rupinder Singh, IPS, ADCP-1 Sameer Verma, PPS, and ACP Central Anil Kumar Bhanot, PPS.
During the initial apprehension, officers recovered three stolen mobile phones from the possession of the duo. Following a formal arrest, the police registered FIR No. 48 under Sections 303(2) and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Division No. 1 Police Station.
During the subsequent interrogation, the accused led the police to the recovery of four additional mobile phones of various brands. This brings the total number of recovered devices to seven.
Investigations have revealed that the suspects are repeat offenders. Police records show that Deepak Kumar is already named in two previous criminal cases. Officials stated that further questioning is underway, as they expect the suspects to disclose information regarding more thefts or potential buyers of stolen goods in the region.
