A joint team comprising the Food Supply Department and local police conducted a surprise raid in Ganesh Nagar, Janta Nagar area, on Sunday to dismantle an illegal LPG refilling unit. Officials seized a domestic cylinder and gas transfer equipment from a local shop during the operation, which targeted unauthorized black marketing and safety violations.

The Food Supply Department initiated the checking as part of an ongoing district-wide campaign to curb the misuse of domestic cylinders. By targeting these illegal sites, authorities aim to eliminate the significant fire and explosion risks posed to residents by unregulated gas decanting.

The local police registered an FIR against the shop owner and the operator of the premises immediately following the inspection. Law enforcement officials have now shifted their focus to a broader investigation to trace the supply channels providing domestic cylinders for commercial misuse.

This crackdown aligns with recent state-wide directives issued across Punjab to ensure public safety and protect consumer interests. Department officials warned that they will continue to take strict legal action against any individuals found involved in the unauthorized handling or distribution of LPG.
