Ikramudin / Ludhiana
Two motorcycle-borne assailants hacked Machhiwara Congress block president Parminder Tiwari to death with an axe at Harian village on Sunday evening over a long-standing dispute involving 15 yards of panchayat land. The Ludhiana police have arrested the prime suspect, Vijay Kumar, along with five others accused of harboring him after the crime.
The incident occurred around 6:30 PM while Tiwari was sitting outside his rented quarters on Hadiyan Road. The attackers struck him repeatedly on the head before fleeing the scene toward Malwa Chowk. Although locals rushed him to a private hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival due to the severity of the trauma.
Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma stated that preliminary investigations link the murder to a grudge held by Vijay Kumar against Tiwari and the Takhra-Khokhran panchayat. The conflict intensified after the panchayat, supported by Tiwari, took action against an illegal construction Kumar had raised on village land, leading to the demolition of his structure.
The Koom Kalan police have registered a formal murder case and recovered the weapon used in the assault. While the main accused is in custody, police teams continue to scan CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to establish the complete sequence of events and identify any further accomplices involved in the targeted killing.
The brutal attack has sparked sharp reactions from senior Congress leaders, including State President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and Partap Singh Bajwa, who condemned the incident as a sign of deteriorating law and order. Shops in the local Malwa Chowk remained closed as residents and party workers demanded a swift and fair trial for the deceased leader.
