Khanna Police Book Two in Sacrilege Case, Focus on Circumstances Leading to Minors’ Involvement

The Khanna police on Monday arrested two persons in connection with the desecration of ‘Gutka Sahib’ in the Anand Nagar area and formed multiple special teams to investigate a deeper conspiracy involving the alleged provocation of minors.

The incident came to light in the jurisdiction of City-2 Police Station, where a video surfaced showing a minor tearing and scattering pages of the holy scripture. Taking swift action, the police registered FIR No. 70/2026 under Sections 299 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following widespread resentment among the local community.

SP (H) Harpinder Kaur Gill, while addressing the media, confirmed that the primary suspects behind the act have been taken into custody. She stated that since the children involved are under 18 years of age, they will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board within 24 hours in strict accordance with the Juvenile Justice Act.

Investigating officers are currently questioning the mother and grandfather of the children to trace the origin of the ‘Gutka Sahib.’ Preliminary leads suggest that certain individuals may have deliberately misled the children and handed them the scripture to execute the act.

The police have also initiated a crackdown on local landlords for failing to conduct tenant verification. It was discovered that the families involved were living in shanties illegally without any record. Consequently, a separate case under Section 188 has been registered against the property owners for violating administrative orders.

SP Gill emphasized that the situation remains peaceful and warned that anyone found guilty of exploiting children to disturb communal harmony will not be spared. She urged the public to remain calm and reiterated that Khanna police, under the directions of SSP Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia, are committed to maintaining law and order.
