Officers from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Ludhiana Zonal Unit dismantled a major drug trafficking attempt on the Jalandhar–Ludhiana highway yesterday, seizing 4.595 kilograms of heroin and arresting two individuals.
Acting on precise intelligence regarding the movement of narcotics from border districts toward Ludhiana, the agency established a tactical surveillance point on the outskirts of the city. At approximately 16:00 hours on March 14, 2026, the team successfully identified and intercepted the target vehicle.
During a thorough search of the car, officials discovered four transparent packets secured in yellow and black tape. The contraband was hidden within a yellow polyethylene bag placed on the floor of the front passenger seat. A field analysis confirmed the substance as heroin.
The seized narcotics hold an estimated illicit market value of ₹9.19 crore. Following the discovery, the DRI impounded both the contraband and the vehicle utilized for the transport under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The two suspects traveling in the vehicle were taken into custody. Official charges were formally filed against the duo on March 15, 2026, as investigations into the drug network continue.
