Ludhiana Police Arrest Two Snatchers, Recover Gold Jewellery, Mobile Phones and Auto

The Ludhiana Police have arrested two accused involved in a snatching incident and recovered gold jewellery, several mobile phones and the auto-rickshaw used in the crime. The action comes as part of the ongoing drive against snatchers launched under the directions of Commissioner of Police Swapn Sharma and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Harpal Singh.
The case was registered at Salem Tabri police station on March 6 based on the complaint of Vinod Kalra, a resident of village Apra in Phillaur tehsil of Jalandhar district. Kalra told the police that his employee, Ameer Gayan, was returning in an auto-rickshaw after getting gold jewellery prepared when some persons sitting in the same auto allegedly snatched the jewellery from him.
During the investigation, the complainant and the victim examined CCTV footage, which helped police identify the auto-rickshaw involved in the incident with registration number PB10 JK 7097. Further probe led to the identification of the accused as Paramjit Singh alias Preet, a resident of City Garden on Gyaspura Road, Ludhiana, who was driving the auto, and Palwinder Singh alias Teju, a resident of Dhillon Nagar on Lohara Road, Ludhiana.
Acting on the information, ASI Prem Chand along with a police team intercepted the auto near Jalandhar Bypass on March 7 and arrested both accused. During the search, the police recovered eight mobile phones of different companies, a gold ring weighing 4.130 mg and a pair of gold earrings weighing 1.83 mg from their possession. The Bajaj Baxy auto-rickshaw used in the crime was also seized.
Police have added Sections 3(5) and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita to the case. Officials said the accused were already involved in several criminal cases registered at different police stations. The police will produce both accused before the court and seek their remand for further investigation.
