The Commissionerate Police Ludhiana dealt a blow to the illegal liquor trade on Friday after intercepting a vehicle in Dehlon and seizing 60 bottles of smuggled spirits. A special checking team, acting on a tip-off from a confidential informant, intercepted the car at a strategically placed checkpoint to thwart the smuggling attempt.

The operation reached a breakthrough when officers signaled a vehicle bearing registration number PB-03-AF-1002 to pull over for inspection. Upon searching the interior, the police team discovered a hidden consignment of 26 bottles of Rajasthan Whisky and 34 bottles of Super Himmat Saunf liquor.

The driver, identified as Bhima, failed to produce any valid permits or legal documentation for the transport of the alcohol. Police officials immediately took Bhima into custody and impounded the vehicle along with the contraband.

Following the recovery, the Dehlon Police registered FIR No. 61 under the relevant sections of the Punjab Excise Act. This arrest marks a significant catch for the local authorities, as the suspect is not a first-time offender.

A background check conducted during the preliminary investigation revealed that Bhima has a long-standing criminal history. He was previously booked in multiple cases involving serious charges, including attempt to murder, house-trespass, and voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons.

Records further indicate that the accused has also faced prior charges under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act for the illegal possession and use of weapons. His involvement in these violent crimes marks him as a high-interest individual for the Ludhiana Commissionerate.

The police are now shifting their focus toward the broader supply chain to determine the origin of the illicit liquor. Investigators are currently interrogating the suspect to identify the kingpins and distributors involved in this illegal network to ensure further arrests in the coming days.
