The Central Bureau of Investigation successfully apprehended a high-profile proclaimed offender on Thursday in New Delhi, ending a sixteen-year manhunt for a man accused of participating in a lethal shooting that claimed the lives of a father and son in Rajasthan.
The agency arrested Paras Ram, who had been living under the assumed identity of "Raju Sharma" to evade capture since the crime occurred in 2010. Acting on a combination of sophisticated technical surveillance and field intelligence, CBI officers tracked him to the national capital, where they executed a standing warrant of arrest issued by a Jaipur court.
The case dates back to July 29, 2010, when Paras Ram and five other accomplices allegedly stormed a residence in Kama, Rajasthan. The group unleashed an indiscriminate hail of gunfire using country-made firearms, targeting the family members of a then-serving Additional Sessions Judge. The violent assault resulted in the immediate deaths of two men and left two others with life-threatening injuries.
The CBI took over the investigation in April 2011 following specific directives from the Jaipur Bench of the Rajasthan High Court. While other suspects faced legal proceedings, Paras Ram vanished shortly after the case was registered, prompting the Hon'ble Court of ACJM SPE Cases in Jaipur to declare him a Proclaimed Offender and announce a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information leading to his arrest.
During his years as a fugitive, the accused successfully masked his trail by adopting his new alias, which effectively stalled trial proceedings against him for over a decade. Investigators finally broke the case after analyzing credible inputs that placed the suspect in New Delhi under his "Raju Sharma" persona.
Following his capture on March 5, 2026, the CBI produced the accused before a competent court, which granted the agency three days of police custody to conduct further interrogations. Officials confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing as they seek to finalize the long-delayed legal process against the primary accused.
