In a decisive move to purge the state of organized crime, the Punjab Police has launched a comprehensive anti-gangster campaign, spearheaded by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khanna, Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia. The SSP issued a clarion call on Monday for public cooperation to transform Punjab into a crime-free state, emphasizing that the battle against gangsterism is a collective responsibility of the police and the citizens alike.
The initiative aims to dismantle deep-rooted criminal networks by incentivizing information from the public through a newly released anti-gangster helpline, 93946-93946. Dr. Ahluwalia announced that the department will grant rewards of up to ₹10 lakh to individuals who provide credible and concrete information leading to the arrest of gangsters. This strategic move seeks to empower residents to contribute to state safety without fear of retaliation.
Addressing the media, Dr. Ahluwalia assured the public that the identity of every informant will remain strictly confidential and their safety will be the utmost priority of the police. She highlighted that while the Punjab Police has successfully neutralized several high-profile criminal cells and recovered illegal weapons in recent months, the total eradication of these roots requires the real-time eyes and ears of the community.
The SSP noted that active citizen participation naturally demoralizes criminals and dissolves the atmosphere of fear that gangsters rely on. She particularly urged the youth to stay away from the lure of the criminal world and called upon social influencers to guide misguided individuals back to the right path.
Dr. Ahluwalia concluded the briefing by promising that the Punjab Police will act immediately on every tip-off received via the helpline. By strengthening the bond between the law enforcement agencies and the public, the department intends to ensure a secure, peaceful, and prosperous environment for all residents of the state.
