Motor Wire Theft Gang Busted in Ludhiana

The Ludhiana Commissionerate Police dealt a significant blow to a criminal gang specialized in stealing electrical wires from agricultural motors, arresting three individuals on Sunday. During the operation, conducted under the supervision of Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma and DCP (Rural) Jaskiranjit Singh Teja, officers recovered 16.5 kilograms of copper wire and a motorcycle used in the crimes.
The crackdown was executed by a police team from Katani Kalan Chowki, acting under the leadership of Inspector Paramdeep Singh, SHO Koom Kalan. Based on specific intelligence gathered during a checkpoint operation, the police intercepted the suspects who had been active in the Sahnewal, Ramgarh, and Koom Kalan areas.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh and Goldy Singh, both residents of village Sudawal, and Satbir Singh, a resident of village Kanech. The trio allegedly targeted water motors in various fields, stripping them of electrical wiring to extract copper for sale.
During the preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed that they burned the stolen wires to extract the copper, which they subsequently sold to scrap dealers. The suspects admitted that they utilized the proceeds from these sales to fund their drug addictions.
Police officials, including ADCP Zone-4 Jashandeep Singh Gill and ACP Industrial Area-A Inderjit Singh, confirmed that Case No. 26 was registered on February 14, 2026, under Sections 303(2) and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Koom Kalan Police Station.
The authorities plan to present the accused in court to seek police remand for further questioning. Investigators expect that deeper interrogation will lead to the disclosure of more thefts and the identification of the scrap dealers who purchased the stolen material.
