The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested two Senior Industrial Promotional Officers and a Trade Assistant today for allegedly accepting a ₹30,000 bribe.
The VB team apprehended Jaspal Singh and Rishav Garg, both Senior Industrial Promotional Officers, along with Trade Assistant Antarpreet Singh, during a targeted sting operation at the District Industries Centre (DIC) in Ludhiana.
The arrests followed a complaint from a local businessman who operates a production unit in the Focal Point area of the city. According to the Bureau, the accused officials demanded a total of ₹45,000 to issue an "Exact Date of Production" certificate required for the complainant’s business.
The business owner provided the Vigilance Bureau with a recording of the officials demanding the illegal payment. This evidence prompted a preliminary inquiry and the subsequent setup of a "trap" operation.
Vigilance Bureau officers caught the three suspects red-handed while they were accepting the first installment of ₹30,000. Two official witnesses were present during the arrest to verify the recovery of the bribe money.
Authorities have registered a case against the three men under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station in Ludhiana. Investigators are continuing to examine the case to determine if other officials or similar demands were involved.
