Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond, Khanna SSP Lead Anti-Drug Drive in Meat Market

Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond and Khanna SSP Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia launched a major offensive against narcotics on Tuesday, February 10, by formally adopting the local Meat Market area under "Operation Parhaar–2." The civil and police administration joined forces to transform this notorious drug hotspot into a clean, drug-free zone through a comprehensive rehabilitation and enforcement plan.

Minister Sond and SSP Ahluwalia personally interacted with residents to build trust and urged the community to join the "Yudh Nashya Virudh" (War Against Drugs) campaign. The Minister specifically called on families to move past social stigma and bring addicted relatives to nearby civil hospitals or Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment (OOAT) centers for professional medical care.

The initiative prioritizes areas with a history of drug peddling and addiction for the first phase of the drive. As part of the transformation, the government plans to clean the entire market vicinity and convert it into a green space to improve the living environment for local families.

To ensure long-term stability, the administration is focusing on education and economic independence. SSP Ahluwalia administered a public pledge to residents, who committed to enrolling their children in schools to shield the next generation from the drug trade.

Minister Sond also encouraged local women to form self-help groups, promising financial assistance from the Punjab government. This economic support aims to make women self-dependent and provide viable alternatives to the illegal activities that have previously plagued the area.

During the event, Khanna SDM Swati Tiwana joined other senior officials to signal a unified front. The administration assured residents of full police support as they work to link the area’s youth to education and its women to stable employment opportunities.
