An intelligence-led operation by Punjab Police has led to the arrest of two Ludhiana-based men allegedly involved in a conspiracy to carry out a targeted killing, during which the accused had conducted reconnaissance of government and prominent offices in the city, Director General of Police, IPS Gaurav Yadav said Wednesday morning.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the DGP said the operation was carried out by the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), SAS Nagar, in coordination with Counter Intelligence Ludhiana. During the operation, police apprehended the two accused and recovered one 9 mm pistol along with five live cartridges.
According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested men were in contact with handlers based in the United Kingdom and Germany. He said these handlers are associated with the Khalistan Commando Force and are linked to hardline extremist ideology.
The DGP further stated that, acting on the directions of these foreign-based handlers, the accused had carried out reconnaissance of government and prominent offices in Ludhiana as part of the alleged conspiracy. In addition, he said both individuals were tasked with gathering inputs and conducting groundwork related to a few more identified persons.
An FIR has been registered at the SSOC police station in SAS Nagar, and further investigation is underway to uncover both forward and backward linkages connected to the case, according to the statement.
Reiterating the police force’s position, DGP Gaurav Yadav said Punjab Police remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding national security and ensuring the safety and security of the people of Punjab.
