The Ministry of MSME’s Development and Facilitation Office (MSME-DFO), Ludhiana, inaugurated a dynamic two-day National Level IP Yatra at the Khalsa College of Engineering & Technology (KCET) in Amritsar on February 26, 2026. Organized under the MSME Innovative Scheme, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between local creativity and global commercial protection by educating entrepreneurs and students on the vital role of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).

Er. Bikramjit Singh, Registrar of KCET, opened the proceedings by welcoming a diverse gathering of government officials, industry leaders, and students. He urged the audience to meticulously study the nuances of patents, trademarks, and copyrights, emphasizing that mastering these legal tools is essential for navigating the modern competitive business landscape.

Representing the Ministry of MSME, Deputy Director Wazir Singh outlined the broader support ecosystem available to small businesses. He delivered an extensive talk on flagship government schemes including PMEGP, ZED, and Lean Manufacturing, explaining how these programs work in tandem with IPR to strengthen the foundation of Indian MSMEs.

The technical sessions provided deep dives into the legalities of innovation, led by Dr. Shweta Sen Thalwal, Founder of Integrum IP. She guided participants through the specific procedures for brand registration and industrial designs, while Dr. Shubhit Kumar Jain from Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) simplified the complex patent filing process using practical, real-life examples.

Pankaj Kumar Jha, Joint Director and HOD of MSME-DFO Ludhiana, delivered the presidential address, framing IPR as a shield for new ventures. He motivated local industry members to aggressively adopt these protections to ensure their products remain competitive in international markets. This call to action was supported by Dr. Ashish Arora of GNDU Jalandhar, who linked innovation directly to skill development and focused entrepreneurship.

The event saw a high-profile turnout from the local business community, including Rajeev Khanna, President of the Textile Manufacturer’s Association, and representatives from PHDCCI. Assistant Director Krishan Kumar concluded the first day with a comprehensive briefing on the PM Vishwakarma and International Cooperation schemes, followed by a formal vote of thanks to the host institution.

Dr. Manju Bala, Director of KCET, alongside her faculty team, facilitated the coordination of the program, which drew over 180 enthusiastic participants. The IP Yatra continues its mission to transform Amritsar’s industrial spirit into a legally protected powerhouse of innovation as it moves into its second day.
