More than 900 industrial visitors converged at the CICU Complex in Focal Point on Friday as the Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU) launched its high-impact Buyer–Seller Meet and Vendor Development Programme to integrate local MSMEs into the national supply chain.
The Ministry of MSME, Government of India, partnered with CICU to organize the two-day event, which aims to bridge the gap between small-scale manufacturers and large institutional buyers through direct procurement dialogues.
Ishita Thaman, Deputy Director of MSME-DFO Ludhiana, inaugurated the session by describing vendor development as a vital tool for capacity building. She noted that these platforms allow enterprises to align their production with the specific quality benchmarks and procurement systems of global buyers.
CICU President Upkar Singh Ahuja told the gathering that the massive Day 1 turnout reflects a deep-seated trust in the chamber's mission. He emphasized that the goal extends beyond networking, focusing instead on evolving Ludhiana’s innovative MSMEs into reliable, long-term partners for Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
The event featured an international perspective from Hayato Yasumoto of Yanmar Agricultural Machinery India, who urged local manufacturers to adopt robust quality control processes. He stated that consistent improvement is the only way for small units to build lasting partnerships with multinational corporations.
During a series of technical sessions, procurement officials from major organizations like Patiala Locomotive Works, Power Grid Corporation of India, and the Ordnance Cable Factory shared specific sourcing requirements. These experts provided a rare opportunity for MSMEs to understand the documentation and technical standards needed for defense and railway contracts.
Deepak Sharma, a facilitator for the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), also guided participants through the digital registration process. He explained how the GeM portal simplifies the way small businesses sell products directly to various government departments across India.
The first day concluded with intense interaction between exhibitors and buyers across sectors including auto components, electricals, and infrastructure. Organizers expect Day 2 to build on this momentum with even deeper technical engagements and the formalization of new supply-chain linkages.
