In a heartbreaking twist of fate, celebrated Indian bodybuilder and actor Varinder Singh Ghuman passed away late Thursday evening in Amritsar, just a day after he posted condolences on Instagram over the sudden demise of Punjabi singer Rajveer Jawanda. Unconfirmed reports suggest he suffered a cardiac arrest while undergoing some treatment at a city hospital.
Born in Gurdaspur, Punjab, Varinder Singh Ghuman rose to national prominence after winning the Mr. India title in 2009 and later securing second place in Mr. Asia. He was widely recognized as one of India’s first vegetarian professional bodybuilders, earning an IFBB pro card and representing the country on the international stage.
Ghuman also ventured into acting, appearing in Bollywood and Punjabi movies including Tiger 3, Kabaddi Once Again. His imposing physique and disciplined persona made him a recognizable figure both in sport and entertainment.
The news of his sudden demise has sent shockwaves across the fitness and entertainment domains. Punjab’s artistic and sporting communities are mourning the loss of a personality who bridged the worlds of athletics and cinema, and who, only a day earlier, had paused to grieve another rising star.
Beyond his competitive achievements and screen appearances, Ghuman was admired for championing fitness culture in India. He often inspired young athletes to pursue bodybuilding without compromising on discipline or dietary choices, and was regarded as a role model who proved that Indian talent could shine on international platforms.
