Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora inaugurated a newly developed multi-sport ground at Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School on Sunday, signaling a major push by the Punjab government to enhance grassroots athletic infrastructure. Accompanied by MLAs Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar and Kulwant Singh Sidhu, the Minister officially opened the facility to provide local students and residents with a high-quality space for physical training and competition.
The inauguration serves as a strategic move to engage the youth of Ludhiana in constructive activities, specifically designed to foster discipline and improve public health. By providing accessible facilities for volleyball, cricket, football, and pickleball, the government aims to create a productive environment that keeps young individuals away from the growing threat of substance abuse.
During his address to the gathered officials and students, Arora emphasized that sports act as a powerful deterrent against drugs. He noted that active participation in athletics does more than just build physical fitness; it channels the natural energy of the youth into teamwork and character building, ultimately shaping them into more responsible and focused citizens.
The Minister also used the occasion to announce a broader state-wide initiative to strengthen sports culture in rural areas. He revealed that the Punjab government is currently developing similar playgrounds in villages across the state. To ensure maximum community benefit, these facilities are being designed to enhance local access particularly after 3 PM, allowing budding athletes ample time to train after their regular school hours.
