Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the appointment of former Congressman Kewal Singh Dhillon as the party’s Punjab president, claiming the BJP was “outsourcing” its leadership in the state.
Reacting to Dhillon’s appointment, Warring said the move itself reflected the BJP’s weak position in Punjab. He alleged that the party, despite dreaming of forming the government in the state, had failed to find a capable leader from within its own ranks to head its Punjab unit.
The Congress leader said the BJP had now appointed former Congress leaders as its Punjab chiefs for the second consecutive time. He pointed out that Sunil Jakhar, who earlier served as the BJP’s Punjab president, also came from the Congress before joining the saffron party.
Warring remarked that the BJP had been left with no choice but to “outsource” even the post of state president, adding that the development exposed the party’s lack of internal leadership in Punjab.
Kewal Singh Dhillon, a senior political leader from Punjab, was recently appointed as the new BJP state president as part of the party’s organisational reshuffle ahead of future electoral battles in the state.
