Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has written to the Punjab Director General of Police and the State Election Commission demanding strict action against people allegedly circulating a fake audio clip in his name during the ongoing local body elections.
In separate complaints submitted to the DGP and the SEC on Monday, Warring alleged that the audio clip being shared on social media and other platforms was fabricated and aimed at tarnishing his public image ahead of the elections. He claimed that the same clip had also surfaced nearly seven years ago as part of a similar attempt to defame him.
The Punjab Congress chief expressed concern over the timing of the clip’s circulation, alleging that it was being deliberately revived to influence the electoral atmosphere during the local body polls in the state.
Warring also questioned the State SC Commission Chairman for reportedly taking suo motu notice of the audio clip without first verifying whether it was genuine or fake. He said the move indicated a “definite design” behind the circulation of the alleged fake recording during the election period.
Seeking immediate intervention, Warring urged the police and election authorities to register an FIR and identify those responsible for spreading the audio clip. He asserted that legal action would be taken against all individuals involved in what he described as a malicious campaign against him.
“Today or tomorrow, eventually we will identify and find out the culprits behind this malicious campaign against me and deal with them strictly according to law,” Warring said.
